About Boat Covers Outlet
What this site is, how it relates to the store that used this domain before, where its information comes from and what it does not do.
Boat Covers Outlet is an independent guide to boat covers, bimini tops and covering a boat for winter, written for boat owners in the United States. From about 2010 to 2023 the domain boatcoversoutlet.com was an online store selling boat covers, bimini tops and accessories. This site is a new publication that continues that subject. It is not that store and is not run by the people behind it: it sells nothing, takes no orders and cannot answer questions about orders, returns or warranties from the store. The store's old product and help addresses now lead to the guides here that answer the same questions, such as how to measure a boat for a cover or which kind of cover fits a particular boat.
What the guides cover
Measuring a boat for a cover and a bimini top, the difference between custom, styled-to-fit and universal covers, cover fabrics, support poles and venting, tying a cover down for the road, shrink wrapping and other ways to cover a boat for winter, and cleaning, waterproofing and repairing boat canvas.
Where the information comes from
Safety statements and figures come from a fact sheet compiled from primary sources: government safety and environmental agencies, boating organisations, and the published care and installation instructions of fabric and cover makers. Each guide lists the sources it relies on. General technique, such as how to run a tape measure along a hull, is explained in plain steps.
What this site does not do
It sells nothing, recommends no brand or shop and takes no sponsorship. It is general information: your boat, cover and fabric makers' instructions come first, and so do the rules of your marina or storage yard.
